BBM was founded by a group of volunteers, led by the wife of the late Bakgatla Paramount Chief, Mrs. Kathleen Mmarakau Kgafela.
Initially, BBM provided home-based care to people living with HIV/AIDS. After acquiring several porta-cabins, BBM shifted care to its current location in Manamakgote Ward, and transported patients there daily. Many patients brought their young children and BBM began providing care and education to them. With the arrival of anti-retroviral therapy and a decline in AIDS deaths, BBM switched its focus to HIV prevention and improving health and social outcomes for people living with HIV.
BBM provides education for orphans and vulnerable children, support and empowerment of young mothers and caregivers, HIV treatment adherence and referrals for families, and life skills and financial literacy instruction for youth. We serve the villages of Dikgonnye, Mabalane, Malowane, Malotwana, Mochudi, Ramonaka, and Sikwane.
